Scheduling snafus spur handyman complaint
COMPLAINT: Lauren Anderson, Indianapolis
"I hired Handyman Connection to patch damaged drywall, paint walls and windowsills, and replace door trim and windowsills.
"After the initial estimate, I had to reschedule the repair appointment. Since it was several months in the future, they told me I'd have to call for another estimate closer to the original appointment. I said that was fine and I'd call.
"I received a reminder about an appointment several months later, but I called and left them a message saying I hadn't agreed to be scheduled and I wouldn't be at home. The repairman still showed up.
"When I called to reschedule, the person on the phone blamed me for not being there. Since this was their error, they should have apologized, but I rescheduled anyway.
"They scheduled the repairman, but they never informed him, so I waited all day and no one showed up.
"I rescheduled again for a new repairman, but he arrived an hour late, spent more than an hour shopping for supplies, left for three hours to watch his son's basketball game, and returned to do a shoddy repair job. He damaged my walls and didn't sand before applying paint, so you can see the drywall's irregularities.
"He also didn't properly paint the windowsills, and he painted the walls the wrong color and then sloppily fixed the mistake, leaving the wall three different colors. He also tracked paint on the carpet.
"I called him back to fix the mistakes, and he and his supervisor came and agreed on what needed to be fixed. However, he never showed up to fix the mistakes when we scheduled him to. I'm still waiting."
DESIRED RESOLUTION: "I want them to show up when we reschedule the repair or refund the money."
RESPONSE: Craig Aspin, general manager, Handyman Connection
"When we and our field supervisor met with the member, we agreed to make repairs. They were supposed to call back and schedule this with our office, and they never did.
"We will furnish records upon request. The paint for the project was provided by the homeowner; if it doesn't match, it's up to them to provide us with the paint that does."
Editor's Note: Anderson informed Angie's List that the work was completed to her satisfaction.
