COMPLAINT: Luckson Chiu, San Francisco
"I hired Bay Area Chimney for a dryer vent cleaning. Jerry [Charton] asked where the vent outlet was. I wasn't sure, and he told me it would cost more if I didn't know. He said since I have two dryers, he'd double the $149 to $298, plus $75 extra to locate the outlet.
"I would've still had him finish the job if his attitude wasn't unusually bad. He was bossy, impatient and unprofessional, so I asked him to leave after 20 minutes. He insisted I pay $149, and I did because I felt threatened. Another company cleaned the vent for just $200."
DESIRED RESOLUTION: "I want him to refund the $149."

COMPLAINT: Nawana Ross, Milpitas, Calif.
"I contacted Tri City Marble about a custom shower pan. They mismeasured, couldn't install it and blamed me for the mismeasurement. They charged me 50 percent ($1,750) up front. I told them to not leave the shower pan on my property. They dumped it on the patio after I went in the house, but later came to pick it up.
"We didn't have a contract, just an estimate I photocopied. I had the deposit charge reversed on my credit card, but they recharged it after I notified the credit card company. Now they have the shower pan and my money, and my bathroom is torn up."
DESIRED RESOLUTION: "I'd like a $1,750 refund."
STATUS: Penalty Box
