COMPLAINT: Carmen T., St. Paul
"St. Paul Plumbing & Heating Co. installed a 1/4-inch ice maker line for my refrigerator, reinstalled my dishwasher, installed a 40-gallon water heater and worked on the drain in my guest room's sink.
The four hours of work cost over $2,000 - I think the price is excessive. They walked through my house with their work shoes on, which I think is disrespectful.
I had to provide a cloth to wipe up water, and they didn't even have a pail. They should provide their own tools and cleanup for their job.
The estimator was late, and called after the time he was supposed to be here.
Since I thought they charged me a lot of money, I called them to ask about their rates so I could figure it out myself. The woman on the phone wouldn't give me any information until I gave her my address.
They also overcharged me for a $68.50 travel fee that was supposed to be waived."
DESIRED RESOLUTION: "I'd like the promised $68.50 refund."
RESPONSE: Wayne Johnson, general manager, St. Paul Plumbing & Heating Co.
"We provided the customer with an estimate up front and performed extra work that wasn't on the contract.
Our installers asked the customer twice about wearing shoes, and she said it was no problem. They had tools, pails and rags with them, and they get comments from customers about how neat they are.
The customer only complained when the issue of the refund came up."
Editor's note: The member told Angie's List she received a check from St. Paul Plumbing & Heating Co. and she considers the matter resolved.
