Sagamore Hills homeowner overhauls backyard into low-maintenance retreat
After living in her Sagamore Hills, Ohio, home for more than 13 years, Angie’s List member Judith Doan decided it was time to dig out the old and install new landscaping in her backyard. “I wanted to get rid of some of the lawn and a dying tree, and have something that required less maintenance,” she says.
After conferring with a friend, Doan contacted highly rated Bremec Greenhouses & Nursery of Chesterland, Ohio, and researched some of their past landscaping jobs to get an idea of their work. “I liked what I saw, and I liked the plan they outlined for my yard,” she says, which included new pavers and plants.
Doan says Bremec consulted with her regarding the types of plants she’d like to see in her yard, but deferred most of the selection to the experts. “I left it up to the owner, Bob Bremec, who knows what he’s doing!” she says, adding that she’d encourage any homeowner embarking on a landscape project to seek inspiration in garden magazines or neighboring yards, but then hire a professional to tackle the dirty work and get it done.
Doan says the project didn’t have any problems, and the final price was on budget at $4,000. She says her favorite aspect is the new yard’s low maintenance requirements. “The workers were very professional and neat,” she says. “Everything came out beautiful.”
