Sacramento-area concrete company saves homeowner money on pool deck problem
When the concrete deck surrounding Woodland, California, Angie’s List member Mark Stinson’s pool began to spot, he contacted several concrete companies and prepared himself to pay for resurfacing. “The concrete was horribly spotted,” Stinson says. “I thought the coating was coming off.”
Of the companies Stinson contacted, two gave him quotes for resurfacing. One of the quotes came in at $8,500. When Stinson contacted highly rated Tom’s Concrete of Citrus Heights, California, he was told he might not have to spend any money at all. “Tom [McMahon, the owner] thought it might be calcium and water reacting,” Stinson says.
McMahon recommended repeated vinegar scrubs in order to remove the hard water stains. “I was really skeptical of the whole thing, but he was right,” Stinson says. “He saved me from having to resurface the whole thing.” He says McMahon was available for questions over the phone or by email.
Stinson says this experience has changed how he’ll tackle projects in the future. He says that using Angie’s List to contact the highest-rated guy in his area provided him with an alternative to resurfacing. “That confirms that I need to work with and talk with the higher-rated companies,” he says. “There’s a reason these people are rated really highly.”
Stinson is still working on removing the spots, but he avoided a huge expense. “I’m making slow progress, but it’s coming along,” he says.
