COMPLAINT: Franklin Crownover, Melrose, Mass.
"Superior Roofing Industries Inc. replaced my wooden gutters on my house with copper gutters and downspouts, including a custom curved section. The original estimate was about $15,000, with the possibility of increased cost.
"After they inspected more closely, they needed to do fascia replacement. The new estimate was approximately $22,000.
"Our terms were one-third down, one-third after installation of non-custom guttering and downspouts, and the balance paid on completion.
"The work went smoothly and quickly on the first three sides [of the house], after which they asked for a certain amount of money that brought the total paid to about $20,000. This was more than contracted for this point in the job, but I had no reason to believe they wouldn't complete the job.
"They were going to come the following week to replace the fascia on the curved side, measure the radius and have the custom piece of guttering made and then installed when it was ready.
"I'm still waiting - it's been five months, and I'm having trouble getting phone calls returned."
DESIRED RESOLUTION: "I'd like to have the job finished. Failing that, I'd like a refund of the difference between what I've paid plus what it will cost to have someone else finish the job."
