Richmond plumber leaves bathroom a mess
COMPLAINT: Dawn Hampton, Richmond
"I hired Medlin Plumbing to replace my entire tub and shower diverter system. It was a nightmare. The workers showed up late explaining they were hungover. They left the bathroom in complete disarray with the access door still off its hinges and insulation on the floor.
Didn't respond to Joan Clark's complaint about leaks in her roof that she says they didn't properly fix. Third month in the box.
"In the shower, the main fixture wasn't secure and could be rocked a half-inch back and forth. The fixtures weren't caulked, allowing water into the wall. Per the written estimate they charged us for a premium Kohler or Moen system, but installed a cheap basic model. The diverter was installed backward, so the knob has to be turned the opposite way to switch between the faucet and shower.
"They admitted substituting the system, but wouldn't replace it without charging me for additional labor. With only one bath at home, I agreed to keep what was initially installed if they could make it work properly. After several attempts, they were unable to make it work and ultimately refused to honor the estimate and the warranty."
DESIRED RESOLUTION: "I want a complete refund of $450."
RESPONSE: Frances Medlin, co-owner, Medlin Plumbing
"The member signed the invoice saying 'work performed to be satisfactory.' The member later decided she didn't like the type of faucet installed and wanted a Moen or Kohler as stated in her complaint, both of which cost more than the total cost of our labor and materials."
