Renovated koi pond makes big splash for Indy grandfather
Ron Holland isn’t coy about how much he loves his renovated koi pond. His former pond, which his son, Nick, helped him build in 2008, was simple in design and didn’t hold many fish or plants. “When we built it, neither of us knew what we were doing, so it was full of mistakes,” Holland says. Despite the flaws, it quickly became a place of serenity for Holland and his wife at their Southside home.
As the koi fish in his pond grew bigger, Holland knew they needed more space and he wanted to add plants and a seating area to the landscape. Highly rated Brick & Bloom of Indianapolis worked with Holland on the $15,000, four-day project that took the pond from 700 gallons to 2,200. It also improved the filtration and water flow, added a seating area and a deck area, which gave the family the ability to access all sides of the pond safely.

The finished project blew his mind, Holland says. “The workmanship is top notch,” he says. “They even installed a tree and roses as final touches.”
Holland says he kept his grandchildren in mind during the redesign process. “They love dangling their feet in the water while all the fish tickle their toes,” he says. “Now they can get close enough that the fish eat from their hands. They love it.”
