Recurring leaks dampen basement repair
COMPLAINT: Carolyn Andrews, Pataskala, Ohio
"Our basement was leaking, so we hired Steve's Basement & Drain Tile Repair in Grove City [Ohio] to install two discharge systems, remove and repair concrete for new lines, install a new sump pump, clean out downspouts, and clean and seal the walls.
"They also installed a second pump that wasn't part of the original quote. They didn't seal all the walls, and those that they did seal bled through. We called Steve [Chapman, the owner] within two days of the job's completion and told him the walls and floor were wet. He told us to buy a dehumidifier, put in fans and wait a week for it to dry.
"Another rain came and it got worse. We called him again and found that he was on vacation. We made tentative arrangements with them to waterproof the basement, but it was going to cost an additional $2,150 over the original $5,850 quote.
"We asked that he meet with us as soon as possible when he returned from vacation and he has not responded."
DESIRED RESOLUTION: "I want our money back."
