Promises of prompt work allegedly broken
COMPLAINT: Laurie Wasserman, Skokie, Ill.
"I hired Troy Construction to complete an unfinished construction job, based in large part on Patrick Troy's promise that he could complete the construction quickly and without interruption.
"After beginning work promptly and enthusiastically, there were extended periods of time where little or no work was done, despite his repeated promises. Then he demanded an advance of $8,000 or he would stop all work.
"I agreed to this in return for an amendment to provide for liquidated damages if the construction wasn't completed within a month. By the deadline, little work had been completed and the house was in a shambles. I hired another contractor to complete the job."
DESIRED RESOLUTION: "I would like to be reimbursed $8,451.39 in out-of-pocket losses, plus $6,000 for liquidated damages."
