Portland painter rejuvenates deck, benches and tables
Angie’s List member Larry J. learned the hard way that going with the lowest bid doesn’t always equal the best service.
That’s what happened two years ago when Larry, of Beaverton, Oregon, turned down a bid from owner Brad Bernard of highly rated Bernard Painting in Portland, Oregon, to refinish his deck.
Larry says he owns a large, intricate deck with cedar lattice surrounding glass panels.
“I went with the lowest bidder, and I truly got what I paid for,” Larry says. “Within two years, the deck was looking quite worn and tired.”
This time, Larry hired Bernard, who he said was very knowledgeable, honest and detailed in his assessment and suggestions. Bernard Painting stripped the existing finish, sanded where necessary and refinished and sealed with a clear coat. They also did the same with two benches and four end tables.
The cost to refinish Larry’s deck was $4,300.
Larry says the Bernard Painting crew was thorough, considerate, very professional and willing to go the extra mile.
“They removed a number of deck flower boxes and furniture, expertly stripped the old finish off, did extensive hand sanding, refinished the wood with a resilient stain and then applied a clear coat,” Larry says. “The deck is beautiful, and I couldn’t ask for a better outcome.”
Larry says he “wholeheartedly” recommends Bernard and his team to others.
