Pool update replaces dated river rock look with elegant waterfall
When Scottsdale member Jim Barry and his wife, Dianne, moved into their home in December 2012, they knew they wanted to renovate the pool, but they addressed other items first. “We spent the first few months remodeling the kitchen and updating the air conditioning,” Jim says. “The time was right after the swim season was over.”
The Barrys interviewed four companies they were considering to complete the work. They narrowed it to two companies and then selected highly rated Love Pool Care of Phoenix. “They identified items that needed to be done that the other companies overlooked,” Jim says.
The Barrys wanted to eliminate an ugly river rock feature that the previous pool had and they were very involved in the new design that would remove it. They reviewed several options to achieve the look they wanted for their waterfall feature and the tile. “Owner Mike Love sent his tile supplier to us,” Jim says. “We spent a long afternoon choosing the right tiles and patterns.”
Jim says the cost of the project was higher than he expected. When purchasing the home, their real estate agent told them the job would cost around $2,000. Then, they started getting estimates for $14,000 to $18,000. The final actual price was $18,000. “Imagine our shock when we began to review estimates,” he says. “We will be delaying our landscaping plans for another year.”
Like any major project, there were issues during the job, but Love Pool Care handled them without complaint. Jim says some of the landscaping suffered damage when plumbing installation took place, but they fixed the problems to his satisfaction. “Now it looks great and we are very happy,” he says.
The Barrys experienced sticker shock at the cost, but they now have a beautiful pool to enjoy. “It’s warm and I’m in the pool every afternoon,” Jim says.
