Philadelphia moving company accused of broken promises

COMPLAINT: Frances Galvin, Chadds Ford, Pa.

"I hired Firpo & Sons Heritage Moving Systems to move my belongings to a new home. They gave me an estimate for $3,700. The packing and moving went great.

"The problems started when they presented me a bill for $5,530. Because there were 10 strong moving guys in the house, I paid the full amount.

"Then I called the office to discuss the discrepancy. One of the owners said he would send a check for $500, but I never received it."

DESIRED RESOLUTION: "Ideally, we'd split the difference between $5,530 and $3,700, but I'd be content with $500."

STATUS: Penalty Box

This is apparently pretty common - I have seen cases of this kind of extortion on People's Court. Their advice is to call the police and present the estimate or paid invoice at the lower amount. They can direct the guys to unload your stuff. (of course I would worry about them breaking my stuff).
