Philadelphia-area contractor silences squeaky floor

Member Gary Gibbs of Warminster, Penn., recently hired highly rated Creative Ideas Carpentry by Brian Tenney of Bensalem to replace his hardwood flooring and install crown molding at a cost of $2,100.

Here’s what Gibbs had to say about his experience: “The cost associated with this project includes labor, paint and materials. It doesn’t include the cost of the flooring, which I had bought from another company. That company would not guarantee that the floor squeaks in my 56-year-old dining room could be silenced. That’s when I contacted Brian Tenney. What a pleasure it was dealing with an honest, professional contractor. He explained exactly how he would do the job and assured me there would be no squeaking. After the old floor was removed, Brian spent over four hours placing screws every six inches to secure the original floor. He also installed some crown molding in my master bedroom that was equally impressive. This installation was well worth the money.”

Squeaks are usually caused when someone walks across a subfloor that's become loose or shifts due to a lack of nails securing it to the joists below, or loose screws coming in contact with the joists.
