Painter, interior designer collaborate on Wheaton home
Lorna Werntz of Wheaton says she's very pleased with the work of several service providers in designing her new home when she moved from Virginia to Illinois - especially in a house she describes as "basically yucky" new construction.
"I hadn't realized how the difference in light would affect my choices," Werntz says. "I had thought the colors that worked in my west-facing house in Virginia would be just fine in a north-facing house in Illinois. Not so!
"Bobbie Sauter, owner of RS Interiors, explained how available light has a big impact on how colors affect people. She worked collaboratively with Creative Finishes to come up with a stunning color scheme that I love.
"Another challenge for her was working with the collection of furniture I've acquired over the years. Some are heirlooms and family pieces of different periods and some are, well, not as nice. But I liked them all, and Bobbie pulled everything together nicely.
"Meanwhile, Joanne Voll of Creative Finishes gave consultations, drew up a master plan, and painted or applied a faux finish to almost every wall surface in the home. She managed the remodeling, as I was living 800 miles away at the time, including the oversight of the subcontractors.
"With her help, I was able to achieve the personalized touch I'd been looking for. I'm very picky, and Joanne's techniques were stunning. She had no excuses; just gorgeous work. Three years later, I still love the designs. The home is very warm and charming."
