Outdoor kitchen expands living space for Tampa-area homeowners
For years, Lutz, Fla., member Rich Junkermann and his wife, Lisa, tried to decide what to do with their backyard space. “We had been discussing whether to expand the lanai [covered patio] and build a pool, or alternatively, an outdoor kitchen and larger outdoor living area,” he says.
“We finally decided that the outdoor kitchen, bar area and larger outdoor living area would be the best lifestyle fit for us.”
Once they decided what to do with the space, the Junkermanns met with two contractors to discuss their design ideas. They chose highly rated Associated Construction Products of Lutz, Fla., to do the work. Junkermann says Associated Construction Products made his experience better, because they were very diligent in determining the work that would need done so every single detail would be included in the original contract and there would be no surprises later.
“They were very receptive to our ideas and suggestions, and working together, we came up with the final design,” he says. “Now that we have been enjoying our outdoor space, we are very happy with the design. We don’t think it could be any better.”
The $32,500 project included installing pavers, a flat panel insulated roof and a screen cage and designing and building an outdoor kitchen. The outdoor kitchen includes a built-in grill and side burner, refrigerator and sink.
With the contractor's help, the Junkermanns chose the color schemes for the pavers, cultured stone facing for the outdoor kitchen area and granite.
Junkermann says his favorite part of the project was the end result — the outdoor living space he and his wife had been thinking about for so many years. “When it was done, my wife and I enjoyed our first sunset and glass of wine in our new outdoor living space,” he says. “The more time we spend out there, the more we love it.”
