Orlando HVAC company leaves couple in the heat
Pro Cut of Lake County Inc.
Didn't respond to Sandra Ricciardi's request to refund her for what she says was incomplete lawn care. Second month in the box.
COMPLAINT: Kathleen Butcher, Sanford, Fla.
"American Air & Heat Inc. put in all new pipes and freon. They said it was working, and I paid them $865. The air conditioning unit, however, has not worked since they left. Because of my bad experience with this company, I no longer have confidence in their work and do not want them to return.
"For weeks I was without air conditioning, and the temperatures were in the mid-90s. I told the company at the start of the job that my husband was recovering from an illness. Under these hot circumstances, I've had to make alternative arrangements for him."
DESIRED RESOLUTION: "I want a $745 refund."
RESPONSE: Brian Detter, service manager, American Air & Heat Inc.
"Upon our tech's arrival, he found the system running but completely out of refrigerant. He detected the leak located in the lineset under the slab of the home. We gave a quote to replace the lineset, the customer authorized it, and the work was scheduled.
"Upon completion, the system was turned on and refrigerant was charged to the proper level. The system was running and blowing cold air when the workmen left. Sometime after that, the unit stopped cooling. Our tech returned promptly to find the compressor seizing up.
"This problem was not apparent at our first visit because the compressor was running. Without refrigerant we were unable to check its integrity. Had the compressor been a problem, he certainly would've addressed it. The compressor was most likely damaged by running with no or low refrigerant levels prior to our visits.
"After the repair, the compressor was put under a full load, ultimately leading to the failure. We cannot be responsible for any parts of any system other than the parts we've replaced."
Editor's note: American Air & Heat Inc. issued a $372.50 refund. The member considers the complaint resolved.
