New Jersey consumer says roofer ripped off roofing, didn’t finish job
I hired John’s CJC Construction in Trenton, New Jersey, to replace the rubber roof on my parents’ house. Owner John Chmielinski Jr. was supposed to tear off the old rubber completely and replace any bad plywood.
He was supposed to furnish and install the 73-pound base sheet, maintenance-free glue applied rubber and metal drip edge with 4-inch cement and cotton fabric. He was supposed to tear down the gutter, install an overhang above the door and haul away the debris.
Instead, he disconnected the cable and said the cable company needed to fix it. He sent me to the hardware store to buy a tarp and nails to cover the exposed roof, and then said the box of nails was too big. But he didn’t finish the job, so I need to hire someone else.
I want a refund of $3,500.

Have a complaint?
Our Angie’s List complaint resolution team attempts to resolve disputes between members and service providers. During this process, three outcomes can happen: Penalty Box, Resolved or Stalemate. Companies that don’t respond to a member’s complaint will be placed in the Penalty Box until they respond. A case becomes Resolved if a company addresses the complaint to the member’s satisfaction, or it becomes a Stalemate if the provider responds, but the company and the member can’t reach an agreement.
