Need Handyman to Move Refrigerator to My Basement. It is a Standard Size Refrigerator (Not Side by Side).

3 pros!
Question by Guest_95828531: I just had a refrigerator delivered but they would not remove the old one to the basement. I now have two refrigerators standing in my kitchen. Where can I hire someone to do this?
Answer by LCD: This is definitely a two-person or more job, so if you are not physically able to be there and materially help with the move, you will need a two-man crew - which most handymen do not have as most as one-man outfits.
Alternatives:
1) many Haulers (junk and trash haulers) will do this sort of move within a house - be sure they are going to bring a proper reefer handtruck, not a regular one, because normal size are too narrow for stability with a reefer, and also the small deck can punch through the bottom of the reefer and break the coils.
2) most areas have furniture delivery companies, who contract out to handle the furniture and large appliance delivery for various stores in the area - perhaps your new delivery was by such a firm. In 20-20 hindsight, I would bet if you offered the movers $10 apiece when they were there they would have put it in the basement for you. If you call them, they will generally do this sort of move.
3) of course, regular moving companies, but probably about $100-200 minimum charge for 5 minutes work. A local packing company (who hires out to pack for long-distance movers) might be a bit cheaper than an actual moving company.
4) if you have several friends - I would recommend at least two on the more muscular side rather than a few 90 pound girlfriends, you can rent a refrigerator/large appliance handtruck (wider and deeper deck and wrap-around strap, and has skids on the back for tilting and sliding down carpeted stairs) at a tool rental place and many UHaul stores for about $10-20/day. Even with the bigger deck, because most reefers have exposed coils in the bottom, best to use a scrap of plywood or some boards under the reefer to bridge the full width, and teh strap cannot push on the coils AT ALL. Also, if older type with exposed coils on back, you have to transport with door against the handtruck - besure to use a blanket for padding to avoid scratches. Then several friends to help move it, followed by pizza and beer or whatever.
