Nashville trophy shop owners talk about awards
Who we talked to
Marci Jameson, president
1322 Hazelwood Drive
Larry Langteau, co-owner
412 Williamson Square
What services do you offer?
Marci Jameson: "We do trophies, plaques, medals, ribbons, engraving, any type of award, and gift-type stuff."
Angel Andress: "We do trophies, plaques, corporate awards and school awards."
Larry Langteau: "We offer trophies, plaques, crystal and acrylic awards, gifts, medals and engraving."
Why should people choose you over an online company?
Jameson: "Customer service. The Internet is convenient but you don't know what you're getting."
Andress: "We pride ourselves on great customer service and a great product."
Langteau: "We offer personalized service and we care about the customer."
What are some of the options for figures on top of trophies?
Jameson: "We typically do mainstream sports. But we also do horseshoes, karate, dance, golf, bowling and hockey."
Andress: "We have lots of interesting things like toilet seats, horses' behinds and Santa Claus."
Langteau: "Besides the usual sports, we have a horses' behind and chili pots for chili cook-offs."
How do you charge for trophies and what's a typical price?
Jameson: "A typical 12-inch trophy is $10 to $12 and our engraving is included."
Andress: "By the design. A 12-inch trophy is around $8 to $10 depending on what style you want done."
Langteau: "By size and how long it takes. A 6-inch trophy would be $4 to $5, and 12- to 14-inches would be around $8 to $12."
Do people still have the same attachment to trophies that they once did?
Jameson: "As you become an adult I don't think so, but children always enjoy getting something."
Andress: "Yes, kids play sports because they think they're getting a trophy for participating and good sportsmanship."
Langteau: "It's a different type of attachment. 8-year-olds still love trophies, but older customers are getting more sophisticated."
What makes you stand out from your competition?
Jameson: "Our service, our quality and our pricing."
Andress: "Our customer service, our product quality and we're always here."
Langteau: "Our friendly customer service and quick turnaround time."
What's the funniest or most unusual award or trophy request you've received?
Jameson: "We did a plaque for a fantasy football league called the 'crap' award. It was pretty unique."
Andress: "We plate a toilet seat every year for a golf tournament."
Langteau: "We mounted a small plastic toilet and some toilet paper onto a plaque."
