Mobile grooming service saves time and headaches
Mobile Pet Grooming won the Angie's List Super Service Award in 2009. Tammy says clients value the convenience of having their animals groomed at home: “You don’t have to worry about driving with a fussy or shedding dog. It’s only an hour rather than an all-day thing.”

Tammy Vasquez grew up in the animal grooming business, which her family has been involved in for more than 40 years. "I've been grooming since I was 12 years old," she says. "Some of my clients have known me since I was a kid. I've groomed three and four generations of pets for them."
Her family specialized in mobile grooming - bringing the shop to the pets - starting with a Volkswagen van in the late 1970s. Tammy struck out on her own 10 years ago, and her husband, Mike, joined her about 18 months ago.
Today, they groom cats and dogs inside a van and two trailers. "We use totally self-contained green units," she says. "It's like a regular grooming shop, minus the cages. We use biodegradeable shampoos and conditioners, and everything is powered by clean diesel."
Thomas Schaefer of Palm Harbor [Fla.] uses them to groom his dogs, Leo and Sparkle. "Leo, who's normally scared of people, warmed right up to Tammy," he says.
"I love the mobile grooming feature. My dogs look great, and as a home-office worker, it's such a time-saver for me."
Mike specializes in grooming large dogs. He says he gets particular fulfillment from helping clients who have frequently been turned away by groomers.
"Even a lot of the shops won't do dogs over 70 pounds," he says. "I get a lot of satisfaction by being able to show up and solve the problem for my clients. I have a specific large-dog unit, and I've worked on dogs who weigh more than 160 pounds."
Tammy says they make a special point of keeping the units comfortable and safe for pets. "We have air conditioning and our own heated water supply," she says. "And since we sterilize our equipment and no other dogs are around, there's no fear of transferring canine flu virus or fleas and ticks that can jump off other animals."
She says they keep customers happy with their dedicated attention to the pets: "We treat their dogs and cats like they're our own."
