Missing warranty for tub reglazing worries homeowner

Missing warranty for tub reglazing worries homeowner

COMPLAINT: Bill Owens, Suwanee, Ga.

"Unique Refinishers in Sugar Hill [Ga.] reglazed and filled in some holes in my bathtub and shower enclosures. When they finished, they showed me the warranty paperwork, which said that you must use their cleaning solution to clean the tubs or the warranty would be null and void. They gave me some cleaner to use, but when I run out, I'll have to buy their brand.

"The warranty also said you can't leave soap in the soap dish because it could ruin the finish. It seems like if you even shower in there, it voids the warranty.

"They said that they were going to send me a reworked warranty, but I've yet to see it. When they reglazed the tubs, they had to tape the tub and left it for me to take off. I believe the warranty states that if you remove the tape and damage the finish, it voids the warranty and I'm liable — but I'm not sure, because they didn't provide me a copy.

"I don't believe they did a good job; the finish is grainy and rough in a lot of places."

DESIRED RESOLUTION: "I want the work completed to my satisfaction and a signed copy of a warranty."

STATUS: Stalemate

Editor's Note: Unique Refinishers responded to Owens' complaint, offering to complete additional work for $75. Owens refused the offer; the company did not want its response published.

Owens is correct not to pay more money for a shabby job. A refund or partial refund is what I may consider. So, what did Angie's list do to back Owens?
