Minneapolis travel agent misquotes cruise
There and back again?
COMPLAINT: Dan Rubin, Eden Prairie, Minn.
"My wife called Hobbit Travel and spoke to an agent for a quote on a cruise. She was quoted an amount around $3,800 for five passengers. The agent offered to hold two cabins at this price and my wife agreed to this. Before we booked flights, my wife called back to make sure the fare was still being held and was assured it was. We then booked non-transferable, non-refundable flights to Miami.
"When my wife called the agent to book the cruise, she was told there was a mistake and the fare couldn't be honored, but could be booked for $4,600. The agent, although polite, said she wouldn't be able to assist in any way regarding this matter. I later spoke with a manager, and explained that we booked airfare based on this verbal agreement. She didn't offer to alter the fare in any way despite this clear error by the Hobbit staff."
DESIRED RESOLUTION: "I'd like a credit toward future travel equivalent to the fare difference."
RESPONSE: Jo Weik, manager, Hobbit Travel
"No rate is guaranteed until it's purchased. Hobbit Travel didn't receive a payment. We'd be more than happy to price out a cruise vacation for the member and offer our best price."
