Minneapolis shoe repair shop disputes zipper complaint

“I hired George’s Shoe and Skate Repair to replace a full-length zipper on one of my knee-high boots. When I got home with the repaired boot, I realized that the new zipper did not match the other one.
"Whereas on the original boot, the fabric was sewn right along the edge of the zipper’s teeth, the repaired boot has more than one-fourth of an inch of zipper showing on each side of the teeth‚ more than half an inch overall.
"The difference is so obvious that I no longer can wear these boots in professional situations, or in any other situation where appearance matters. I have lost $35 plus the use of a pair of boots.”
DESIRED RESOLUTION: “I want George’s to refund my $35.”

“In the 104 years our family has operated George’s Shoe and Skate Repair, there have been rare occasions where we have had to replace or refund customers on the completed work.
"The zipper repair we did for the member is the same job we have done hundreds (more like thousands) of times before for repeat customers. Since we are not a manufacturer, but a repair shop, we never have exact original replacement parts.
"We feel this job was nowhere near as poor as she described it. Therefore, we do not feel a refund is owed. We felt our service was professional, and we treated her very nicely. Most of all, we did her a favor with a two-day turnaround for a job that normally takes five to seven business days.”
