Mesa pool company settles electrical dispute

Member complaint

I hired Polar Pools & Spas Enterprises of Mesa, Ariz., to build my $100,000 dream pool.

The owner brought his electrician over to my house and said there wasn’t enough electricity going from my house to the pool. The owner and the electrician came back out and asked me to make a check to the electrician for $1,500. The pool wasn’t completed yet and they said we couldn’t get the final permit on the pool without the electrical upgrade. Somehow they worked around that and completed the pool without the upgraded electrical system. The problem is whenever the pool pump comes on, the electricity in my home that’s attached to that breaker shuts off. I’ve been calling the owner to check on the electrical issues and he told me the county was just taking a long time on the permits. Finally, I called the county myself and they said the permit had never been filed. I called the owner and he said he’d contact the electrician. When I didn’t hear back, I called the owner and requested my $1,500 back so I could hire someone to fix it. The owner told me this was not his problem and that I made the deal with the electrician, not him. I paid the money to the electrician because the pool company owner told me to and was with him at the time. I told the pool company to give me the money back or finish the work, then the owner yelled at me and hung up. Now, he won’t return my calls. I want my $1,500 back so I can hire someone else.

Have a complaint?

Our Angie’s List complaint resolution team attempts to resolve disputes between members and service providers. During this process, three outcomes can happen: Penalty Box, Resolved or Stalemate. Companies that don’t respond to a member’s complaint will be placed in the Penalty Box until they respond. A case becomes Resolved if a company addresses the complaint to the member’s satisfaction, or it becomes a Stalemate if the provider responds, but the company and the member can’t reach an agreement.
