Member says contractor performed shoddy tile floor installation
I hired Art Alexander of Palm Springs, Calif., to install tile floor, two tile showers and grout and seal the floor. Art said he had 30 years of experience and would do a great job on my floors and showers, but he cut corners, didn’t pay attention to detail, came across as lazy and only worked a few hours per day.
He also used the incorrect thinset and the tiles are falling off the walls or coming off the floor. Art was helpful and did a good job with the layout of the tiles. The tile in one room isn’t level, so edges stick up and are uncomfortable to walk on. The grout was lighter in color than he said it would be and didn’t match the tiles. He stained it a darker color to make it acceptable, but it’s disappointing he couldn’t even match up the grout to the tile color! In the living room, kitchen and other bathrooms, the thinset he used to bond the tiles to the Hardibacker is incorrect and needs to be redone!
He is unresponsive and isn’t fixing his work after months of repeated requests! I want a $17,545 refund.

Have a complaint?
Our Angie’s List complaint resolution team attempts to resolve disputes between members and service providers. During this process, three outcomes can happen: Penalty Box, Resolved or Stalemate. Companies that don’t respond to a member’s complaint will be placed in the Penalty Box until they respond. A case becomes Resolved if a company addresses the complaint to the member’s satisfaction, or it becomes a Stalemate if the provider responds, but the company and the member can’t reach an agreement.
