Member says Chesapeake contractor incorrectly installed hardwood flooring
I hired Custom Painting by Jimmy Lane of Chesapeake, Va., to install engineered hardwood flooring downstairs and vinyl tile in the kitchen and bathroom. They provided an estimate of $3,000, but charged $4,860.
They left gaps in tile flooring and under almost every door frame, which is where they incorrectly cut and installed it regardless. A rotted area of the subfloor with a hole in the center wasn’t repaired. Instead of removing the pedestal sink base, they cut tile out around it and squeezed in a large amount of caulk.
I have four boxes of extra wood and about a half of box worth of wood without a box because they told me to order too much, and they told me to order the wrong transition strips, which can’t be returned. They threw out large amounts of good wood. They also didn’t provide a written estimate or a receipt, and told me the problems weren’t their fault. They won’t return my calls.
I want a $2,000 refund.

Have a complaint?
Our Angie’s List complaint resolution team attempts to resolve disputes between members and service providers. During this process, three outcomes can happen: Penalty Box, Resolved or Stalemate. Companies that don’t respond to a member’s complaint will be placed in the Penalty Box until they respond. A case becomes Resolved if a company addresses the complaint to the member’s satisfaction, or it becomes a Stalemate if the provider responds, but the company and the member can’t reach an agreement.
