Many products available for teeth whitening
Like it or not, your smile is one of the first things people notice about you. A clean, healthy-looking grin is associated with health and youth. Today, Cincinnati consumers can choose between a range of affordable options for whitening their teeth, as well as cosmetic dentistry to enhance their smile. Take a look at the pros and cons of each.
Whitening procedures: If you are simply seeking to whiten your teeth, you can select an off the shelf product at the store or seek the care of your dentist. At the store, you can choose between whitening toothpaste, gels, strips and rinses.
Toothpaste: A whitening toothpaste boosts strain removal with a chemical agent, but does not contain bleach. Expect this product to brighten your teeth by about one shade. Whitening gels are peroxide-based and you brush them on your teeth twice a day for about two weeks. Results can be dramatic and last up to four months.
Strips: Whitening strips also a peroxide-based gel, and users typically apply them twice a day for two weeks.
Rinses: Whitening rinses are a new option. They can reduce plaque and gum disease, and also include hydrogen peroxide. The procedure is the same as any mouthwash: just swish, rinse and spit. However, some say that rinses are less effective.
Professional whitening: If you decide to undergo teeth-whitening procedures at the dentist's office, you'll typically have a gel applied to your gums, then be fitted with a mouth guard to position your lips and mouth. Next, a concentrated whitening gel will be applied to your teeth, and an ultraviolet light will be focused on the gel. It's common for this process to be repeated three times, for 20 minutes at a time.
