Maintain your windows with cleanings and coverings
Submitted by Craig and Elaine Lee of Shine a Blind
Have you noticed that even if you never open your windows, those shades and blinds still get grimy, dirty and filthy?
The word is "convection." It refers to the movement of air because of the differences in density due to temperature. Warm air is lighter than cold air. When the sun heats the air in the space between your windows and window treatments, the warm air rises and cooler air is drawn in at the bottom.
There is actually quite a bit of air flowing across and around your blinds, shades and window glass, even though the windows are closed. Dirt, dust, lint, pollen, bacteria, grease, allergens, and smoke particles – all of these stick to your window treatments and window glass then bake on them during the heat of the day. When the air in the space cools, the direction is reversed.
Fabrics, such as carpet, upholstered furniture and draperies and blinds act as filters, trapping soils, pollutants, gases and animal dander. Like any filter, they need to be cleaned.
It is important to have blinds cleaned before damage is permanent. Soil on window treatments promotes the growth of mildew and mold. Blinds collect more dust, grime, smoke particles, fingerprints and bacteria than most people can imagine. Bacteria from the decomposition of body oils, perspiration, foods and airborne particulates can permanently damage or discolor fabrics.
Protect the investment in your window treatments. Start a regular maintenance program. The cost of regular maintenance is a fraction of the cost of purchasing new window coverings. When the blinds and shades are cleaned, you will have window coverings that are clean and working properly.
A benefit of window blinds is the amount of control people have with them. With blinds, you can control the amount of light and privacy you want with a very simple action. Mini blinds, as an example, can be adjusted and the slats moved for minimal light to pass through and also offer the home privacy.
These blinds can also be raised so the whole window is open to the light. They are far more versatile than curtains can be. Good quality blinds and shades have replacement parts available from most manufacturers so most broken parts can be replaceable by a good reliable blind service company.
Don’t waste money and time by replacing expensive blinds when you could have them restored to their original condition using the latest in cleaning technology for a fraction of the cost.
