Luxury transportation services relieve holiday stress

The holidays call for added mileage. Whether it’s picking your loved ones up from the airport or attending holiday parties, you’re sure to be in a mad dash. Luckily, luxury transportation services provide reliability and a breath of fresh air for this busy time of year.

San Fernando Valley member Judy White used highly rated Crown Limousine LA of Los Angeles to pick her daughter up from the airport the day before Thanksgiving, which cost $160. When her daughter was worried about missing her return flight on Black Friday, White called the office’s emergency number at 2 a.m., and to her surprise, an actual person answered and said they’d take care of the issue and schedule the driver to arrive an hour earlier. “They’re so accommodating and polite,” she says.

Although White has only used Crown Limousine for airport transportation so far, she says she may use them for her upcoming anniversary. “It’d be nice to take a limo, have a few cocktails and not have to worry about driving,” she says. When it comes to the already busy holidays, White appreciates Crown’s reliability. “It just takes the stress out of picking people up and getting things done.”

While Crown does provide airport shuttle service, owner David Navon says the most popular holiday services they offer are light tours, where they take limos to places with elaborate festive light displays, and holiday shopping transportation. “The malls are crowded, so people will use us to get dropped off and not have to deal with parking,” he says. They also transport to a lot of dinners and holiday parties.

Crown provides transportation in everything from a Lincoln sedan to a party bus. Their largest party bus can hold up to 40 people and has a restroom.

Boris Mlodik, owner of highly rated Lisa’s Elite Sedans in Rockville, Md., says his most requested service around the holidays is airport transportation, and many of his clients ride in style to and from holiday parties and dinners as well. He says his transportation services provide safety and peace of mind for partygoers who drink from the adult punch bowl.

When should I book?

If you’re planning to book transportation for a Friday or Saturday night, Navon says you should book at least a week in advance, because they do sell out. For weekdays, Navon says three to five days notice is sufficient. Their two party buses are popular for New Year’s, and might require booking further in advance.

Mlodik says the sooner the better. “As soon as you have your itinerary is the best time to call,” he says. “Even if it’s a day or two before, I can guarantee transportation 99 percent of the time. If it’s less than 24 hours notice, then that’s a question mark.”

David Walton, owner of highly rated The Towncar Chauffeur in Orlando, Fla., says booking in advance is certainly appreciated, but his chauffeurs’ lifestyles closely mirror that of a fireman. “We wait for the whistle ready to jump into action,” he says.

How much does luxury car service cost?

Mlodik says people enjoy having a friendly and professional driver when they use his services, and oftentimes he gets referrals and repeat customers. He doesn’t charge by the head. Pricing for a sedan is $55 an hour, a luxury SUV is $65 an hour and limousines, which have a minimum four-hour requirement, can range from $105 to $150 per hour. He also has fixed rates for popular destinations, such as the airport. Prices don’t include gratuity, parking and tolls.

Walton says an advantage to using a flat-rate transportation service is that they waste no time getting you from one place to another. “Metered drivers focus on the meter, and can take you for a longer trip than necessary,” he says. Also, instead of waiting in hour-long lines at the airport taxi stand, you can provide your flight landing information and have a driver waiting on you.

Towncar’s most popular services around the holidays are airport rides and dinner charters. A sedan or SUV costs $60 per hour, including gratuity, and seats up to six. There is a five-hour minimum for coaches, and a three-hour minimum for all other cars. Prices increase for vans, coaches and limos.

Crown Limousine’s rates are by the hour and depend on a number of factors, including distance and frequency of use, but a towncar typically costs $65 per hour. Airport shuttle transportation is a flat rate.

Why should I use a luxury car service?

Not only can transportation services relieve holiday stress, they can also help take away the stress of important life events. D.C. member Jeremy Keck booked Lisa’s Elite Sedans on Valentine’s Day for a five-hour ride with multiple stops. “I didn’t want to drive,” he says. “I didn’t want to worry about parking or any of the details of having a vehicle.” There was a good reason for this. By the end of the ride, Keck was engaged. “With Boris at the wheel, I was able to sit back, relax and enjoy my new fiancée, as well as the rest of the evening,” he says. “I can’t thank Boris and Lisa’s Elite Sedans enough! I would certainly recommend them to anyone who needs someone they can count on.”
