A legacy of electric service
Kordick Electric Co.
Dennis Lauer, owner
Kordick Electric Co. has won the Super Service Award every year since 2001. Joseph Kordick founded the company
in 1915; Lauer started working there in 1967. He and his wife , Jean, bought the business in 1973. “I’ve seen several
generations come and go,” he says. “It’s been challenging, but it’s also been rewarding.”

Kordick Electric Co.'s work spans several generations; in fact, they still work on some houses the company originally wired 85 years ago. Most customers haven't been with Kordick quite that long, but owner Dennis Lauer says repeat business is a big part of his success. "It's rewarding to see a job finished, then go back and do further work for the same customer," he says.
Although Kordick handles a wide variety of work, from commercial to new construction, its primary focus remains on residential service and repair, particularly in an economic climate with little new construction.
"Our telephone never stops ringing for service business," Lauer says. "It's a constant juggling act." He says his crew is always available 24 hours a day. And since his employees all live within the Kordick service area, which includes portions of Cook and Lake counties, someone's probably not far from wherever service is needed. "We all have radios and cell phones, and for emergency service, I can get in touch with someone within minutes."
Angie's List member Susan Matre of Long Grove appreciated Kordick's personal touch when installing new light fixtures in her home. "Of the estimates I got, Kordick's was the most professional; their estimate was handwritten and mailed," Matre says. "They left no mess behind, and the lights are a big improvement."
Lauer started as an apprentice with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local Union 134 in 1961. He still takes pride in running a shop of experienced union members, who have all completed apprenticeships of at least five years of training and testing. He says his company's many years of positive reports on Angie's List are due to making every effort to do the job well and follow up with customers.
"We really strive to do the job right the first time," he says. "Of course, everything isn't perfect in a service world. Sometimes we overlook something or make an honest mistake, and we're always there to fix it and make it right for the customer."
