Leather chair in repair limbo finally leaves Avon store
COMPLAINT: Brenda Bailey, Mooresville, Ind.
"Last fall, I purchased new furniture from Godby Home Furnishings in Avon. After I received the leather recliner I ordered, I noticed it had a 3-inch area that had been torn and repaired.
"I called the service department, but when the guy came to fix it, someone had ordered the wrong fabric. So they reordered the fabric. When it came in, they said the chair could only be fixed by an upholsterer, so they picked it up.
"A week later, they called and said someone ordered wrong fabric again, so they were going to return the chair. I told them to keep it until they get correct fabric. The last time I spoke with them, I asked why don't they just replace that recliner, if it's not going to get fixed.
"I've been very patient, and I've spent a lot of money at this store and have always had great service. They said they couldn't give me a new chair because mine was a special order, but I had to order it because they didn't have the color [I wanted] in stock. They're just now saying it's supposed to be fixed this week."
DESIRED RESOLUTION: "I want a recliner — just bring me a [new] chair or get mine fixed."
RESPONSE: Tony Burtron, operations manager, Godby Home Furnishings
"The chair was repaired. The manufacturer sent the wrong part twice, much to our dismay, and the repair took much longer due to the manufacturer's error. Once we received the correct part, the repair was completed quickly."
