COMPLAINT: Lynn Nicholas, Lexington, Mass.
"Liberty Bell Builders Inc. remodeled two bathrooms, a basement and did some miscellaneous repairs around the house. Initially, they kept their promised dates and the work progressed at a reasonable rate.
"Near the end of the project they used an unlicensed plumber, the result of which was water damage to new vanities and a leaking shower that caused substantial damage to ceilings, walls and light fixtures.
"When I contacted them to correct the mistakes they simply lied about returning and ultimately never came back, despite being paid in full. They failed to complete the work.
"I've worked in the construction industry my whole career. I'd consider them dishonest, unprofessional and unqualified."
DESIRED RESOLUTION: "Liberty Bell should reimburse me $1,667."
RESPONSE: James Bell, president, Liberty Bell Builders Inc.
"We did all the work in a professional manner. We met with all subcontractors and picked up all goods the customer bought at no cost. We also fixed old leaks in the basement and first floor.
"We did all kinds of extra work at no cost to the customer. I went back several times, but the customer wasn't home. The member used inferior fixtures from local hardware stores. I would've used better quality. I know the member is trying to cheat me."
