Lawrenceville flooring pro keeps business personal
It took Lawrenceville, Ga., business owner Cesar Del Aguila decades and an international move to find the job he loves. And in the end, he realized that he needed to go create it himself.
After studying economics in college in his native Peru, Del Aguila says he couldn’t find a job within that field or otherwise in his homeland. He came to the U.S. and initially found work delivering food to restaurants, working predawn hours and long days at a job he didn’t enjoy. So about 19 years ago, when a friend of his wife’s needed a helper on an Atlanta carpet installation job, he asked Del Aguila to tag along. “I saw that I’d like to do this,” he recalls.
He began initially by working on installation jobs for large home improvement stores. “I realized that’s not enough for me, so I needed to start my own business,” Del Aguila says. “I saw a lot of stuff [working with stores], the good stuff and the bad stuff, and I learned from it.”
2012 Angie's List Super Service Award Winner:
Owner Cesar Del Aguila of Lawrenceville, Ga., services Rockdale, DeKalb, Gwinnett and portions of Fulton counties in Georgia. Pro Flooring 323 earned the Super Service Award in 2006, 2007, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012.
That’s where he stumbled upon his favorite part of the job — and the thing Angie’s List members note time and again in their A reviews — going to homes and selling the product himself. Del Aguila enjoys visiting customers and working as the salesman, and he says customers appreciate an involved owner. “I realized I had to do something different, so I do full service,” he says. He has no storefront location and instead brings samples directly to customers, which helps keep costs lower and convenience higher.
Del Aguila founded the company in 2002 as Professional Carpet Installation, but he changed the name to Pro Flooring 323 last year to reflect its growth from carpet to all flooring types. Today, the company has 10 installers who specialize in different flooring, including carpet, tile and hardwood. The second part of the business name refers to the Bible verse Colossians 3:23, which Del Aguila says reflects his Christian values and how he does business. “Whatever I do, I try to do right,” he says.
Member Ron Hodge of Cumming appreciated Del Aguila’s knowledge, personal touch and follow-up. Even when Hodge couldn’t be on-site for a house he was selling, he trusted Pro Flooring 323 to get it right. “I got a good feel from him when I met him and then went ahead and gave him the order,” Hodge says. “My experience with him has been very good.”
Because Del Aguila started as a helper and installer, and then learned on the job and through courses from International Certified Floorcovering Installers Association and other trade groups, he says he’s gained a better understanding of the process than a typical salesman who hasn’t done the job. “I know everything about installation,” he says. “I’ve dealt with the situation.”
The Super Service Award recognizes contractors and health care providers that have maintained a stellar service rating on Angie’s List throughout the past year. Be sure to always check the List before hiring, as ratings can and do change.
