Lawn service refunds money after weeds return, member says
I hired Hulett Environmental Services of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., to treat my front, back and side yards. They said I’d never pull another weed or worry about pests in the lawn or mulched areas. I had a coupon, but a representative said he couldn’t honor it because he gave a good price.
I started seeing weeds and brown spots in my lawn area and weeds that were about a foot tall in the mulched areas. I called the company for several months to find out why.
I finally received a call from a manager who said the company wasn’t licensed to treat mulched areas. He offered to spray the mulched area once and to extend our contract if we didn’t cancel our service. I should have gotten my money back.
The lawn is worse than ever with brown spots. One person who sprayed for said it was due to overwatering, but our sprinklers were off because it was the rainy season.
The next visit report said I was under-watering, and I was watering regularly. The following time, they said grubs caused the spots.
The one ray of hope is that a manager came to speak about our cancellation. He took a sample of grass from a brown area to his lab. He commented that he wished that he had known about our problem beforehand, but this was after we made several calls to let them know that we weren’t getting proper service.
Hulett personnel always acted professionally, but the entire yard is in worse shape than when they contracted with us. I want a $469.30 refund or for them to rid my lawn of weeds and brown spots.

Have a complaint?
Our Angie’s List complaint resolution team attempts to resolve disputes between members and service providers. During this process, three outcomes can happen: Penalty Box, Resolved or Stalemate. Companies that don’t respond to a member’s complaint will be placed in the Penalty Box until they respond. A case becomes Resolved if a company addresses the complaint to the member’s satisfaction, or it becomes a Stalemate if the provider responds, but the company and the member can’t reach an agreement.
