Lake Tapawingo homeowner says flood prevention work caused floods
I hired IQ Home Improvement of Lee’s Summit, Mo., to install a drain outside to keep my garage from flooding, use landscaping to keep water from entering the basement, install a deck and a door to the deck.
At first, they seemed knowledgeable and accommodating. We genuinely liked them, but the minute I questioned their lateness, unresponsiveness, poor communication and quality of work, they turned on me. The owner threatened and belittled me while working in my home. They installed a French drain to keep water out of the garage, but it was the ugliest and worst-looking finished project I’ve seen. The first time it rained, the garage flooded again. They refused to fix this. The landscaping near the basement looks OK, but during the job they kept changing methods and billed me for things they hadn’t installed. When I expressed concern, the owner sent a nasty text message and ripped out all the work and started over. The deck had a few boards that they needed to replace and they did do that, but the door they installed to the deck left a huge gap in the floor where the hardwood used to be. They left the work unfinished, with no sanding, trim, caulk or paint. Also, their work left a crack in the wall that they claim they didn’t do. The owner was a horrible communicator and didn’t know how to run a business. I want a $1,300 refund.

Have a complaint?
Our Angie’s List complaint resolution team attempts to resolve disputes between members and service providers. During this process, three outcomes can happen: Penalty Box, Resolved or Stalemate. Companies that don’t respond to a member’s complaint will be placed in the Penalty Box until they respond. A case becomes Resolved if a company addresses the complaint to the member’s satisfaction, or it becomes a Stalemate if the provider responds, but the company and the member can’t reach an agreement.
