Kitchen fires may seem like a distant concern, but they're actually the leading cause of home fire. Learn to better spot a kitchen fire hazard.
When you’re cooking a wonderful meal, kitchen fires can seem a distant concern — but they shouldn’t be. Cooking is the leading cause of home fires and fire injuries, says the U.S. Fire Administration. Luckily, many of these fires are preventable by practicing some of the basic kitchen safety behaviors we’ve illustrated in the infographic below:
Simple steps, such as not leaving cooking food unattended, keeping flammable items away from the stove top, and setting cooking timers or using “smart stoves” that turn off automatically, can dramatically reduce the potential for a kitchen fire, says the American Red Cross.
