COMPLAINT: Eli Lev, Redwood City, Calif.
"I made an appointment with Water Quality Plumbing to have my kitchen sink snaked. They told me the job would take an hour. They showed up two hours late. Their plumber attempted to snake the drain and said he couldn't do it. He indicated he'd have to repipe the drain line.
"I checked with another plumber later, and it turned out Water Quality Plumbing did the snaking at the wrong point. Since there was time left in the hour, I asked the Water Quality plumber to check a leaking toilet. He indicated it was a fill valve and changed it. This was wrong since the flapper valve leaked, so the toilet continues to leak every 10 minutes.
"All of this was done within the hour. Then, they took their time to write the invoice - around 10 minutes - and charged me an extra half hour. I feel the extra charge for the additional half hour is unjustified. I e-mailed the company and faxed them a letter requesting a refund as well."
DESIRED RESOLUTION: "I'm seeking a full refund of $152. The service company returned $57 for the extra half hour. Consequently, I seek the remaining balance of $95."
RESPONSE: Marty Satalino, president, Water Quality Plumbing
"We have sent this member the $95. We regret this unfortunate incident. We could have rectified his issues by sending another, more experienced plumber.
"The member never placed a phone call to our office to express his concerns. He e-mailed his complaint. I was in Italy for more than two weeks and didn't see it. He says he faxed his complaint, but this office never received it."
