Indianapolis photographer restores old portrait
Photos courtesy of Jennie Shively | The restored 16 x 20 print Shively presented to Holy Family Church.
Shively's 1917 photo before the restoration by Abelard Photography.
The church holds a lot of family history for Shively. Her grandparents were married there, her grandfather went to grade school there, and many of her aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews have been baptized there.
Description of work: "Mr. [Frank] Abelard restored an old 16 x 20 photograph for me."
Member comments: "I needed an old photograph of my great-grandmother and grandmother at the Holy Family Church 1917 Jubilee in Chicago restored. The original photograph was split in two and required an expert to handle the restoration effort.
My great-aunt was a nun and gave me the original photo, and I held onto it for years. I kept a copy for myself, and gave the original and another copy to the church, which dedicated it in my parents' names. It was overwhelming to be in the church. I'm the oldest of 10 children, and the church has been a part of my family's history.
I had an excellent experience with Mr. Abelard – he understood what was needed to accomplish task. The photograph looks better than the original because he was able to adjust the sepia tones of the faces in the picture. He is such a sweet man and an excellent photographer. I am so glad I found him. It was really serendipitous.
