Ill-fitting windows cause conflicts

COMPLAINT: Johanna Wolgast, San Mateo, Calif.
"Allbrand Windows replaced a bedroom window and a living room window with a view. They came out and took the measurements [but] I ended up with a completely different window that blocked the view with a crossbar. The second window in the bedroom didn't meet code for egress."

DESIRED RESOLUTION: "I'd like Allbrand to replace the bedroom window and have a reasonable discussion about replacing the living room window with one that more closely meets the original dimensions."

STATUS: Penalty box

COMPLAINT: Tim B., Los Angeles
“I used Super Movers for a move from San Francisco to Los Angeles. The problem came in Los Angeles. One of their crew tried to take my mattress under the garage gate while it was closing. Due to their negligence the gate was damaged.”

DESIRED RESOLUTION: "Super Movers has been sent proof of the repairs and I want to be reimbursed."

RESPONSE: Ellie Hofmann, safety compliance officer, Super Movers "Upon the completion of the job, the member signed his contract, referencing the incident on our paperwork. He then contacted our office to report that the complex management reported the door inoperable. We requested a detailed report of the repair costs and receipts. To date, we haven't been contacted, nor has the member provided verification of the costs. Without documentation, we have denied the member's claim."

STATUS: Stalemate
Editor's note: The member's last name was withheld at his request.
