HVAC company denies wrongdoing while checking air conditioner

His Tree & Landscape Inc.
COMPLAINT: Jane Maginnis, New Port Richey, Fla.
"I hired Steve's A/C & Heating to clean my air conditioner. The coils were filthy with nicotine, which caused much damage to my home.
"When I turned the furnace on, the air quality was zero. I had to leave the house because my eyes were burning. The horrible odor permeated the house. I'll be paying nearly $2,000 to have the smell removed from my home.
"This company is telling me it's not their fault because I asked for maintenance and not a cleaning. Either way, they should have realized the coils needed to be cleaned."
DESIRED RESOLUTION: "I expect the $60 charge to be refunded to pay for the cost of sprays and cleaners. I also want $1,000 toward the cost of putting my home back like it was before I called them."
RESPONSE: Glen Plishka, president, Steve's A/C & Heating Inc.
"We were called by the customer for a checkup. We checked the system's duct work, Freon charge and corrected wiring. How would we be responsible for her nicotine-dirty coil and damage to her house?
"She did not say a word to our service man about cleaning the coil. She has had a contract with another company for 10 years! Why did they not clean the coil if the problem was so bad?
"I would like to know how we damaged her house by checking her air conditioner."
