It's easier than you think to keep mice out of your house! Mice can't stand the strong scent of peppermint, and they have a really good sense of smell, so they will avoid it at all costs. Keep this plant around as either a leaf or in oil form, and it will work wonders as an all-natural mouse repellant!

1ADD MINT PLANTS TO YOUR HOME

Adding mint plants to your indoor herb garden will help keep mice from scurrying around your kitchen for bits of food. If you don't have an indoor herb garden, place potted mint plants along your windowsill or on your kitchen countertops to deter these rodents.

2SOAK COTTON BALLS IN PEPPERMINT OIL

A stronger alternative to mint plants is the oil derived from the leaves themselves. You can find peppermint oil in the same section as the other essential oils at most grocery stores for around $7. Replace the cotton balls every few days so the smell remains potent. Simply soak a few cotton balls in the peppermint oil and place them around common entry points for mice. This works especially well for areas in your home where you can't keep a mint plant because of low sunlight, like your basement or attic.

3ADD PEPPERMINT OIL TO CLEANING PRODUCTS

Place a few drops of peppermint oil in your favorite all-purpose cleaner or disinfectant and give it a good shake. Then, wipe down your counters as you normally would with the solution to prevent unwanted guests from invading your cooking area.

4USE PEPPERMINT AS AN AIR FRESHENER

Using mint as a natural repellant doesn't have to be confined to your kitchen, especially if you enjoy the smell of it yourself! Combine a few drops of peppermint oil with a cup of water and add this mixture to a spray bottle. Use this all-purpose air freshener anywhere you want to discourage mice from hanging out, like under the bed, around your water heater or in your laundry room.
