Dresser drawers can hold more than t-shirts and tube socks. Instead of tossing an old, worn-out dresser or passing on a shabby thrift-store find, transform it! With a little creativity, your dresser can easily become a baby-changing table, a kitchen island and even a flower garden. Plus, dressers offer storage solutions for small spaces. Here are five great dresser-transformation ideas.

1BENCH

If you remove the top of the dresser and all of the drawers, you're left with a perfectly sized seat. Add plywood and some cushions, and you're ready to sit!

2KITCHEN ISLAND

If you replace the top of your dresser with marble, granite or a butcher block, then you have a kitchen island with an incredible amount of storage! This project works best if your dresser stands at the same level as your countertops.

3BABY-CHANGING TABLE

This transformation is simple and great for mid-sized dressers. Place a cushy pad on top of the dresser, and it's now a baby-changing table! Use the drawers below for nursery storage.

4GARDEN PLANTER BOX

Empty drawers make beautiful planter boxes. Simply cut a hole in the top of your dresser to add a plant to the top drawer. For more planting space, open the other drawers so that they're staggered.

Note: It's a good idea to line your drawers with garbage bags and drill a few drainage holes through the wood and the plastic. This will help keep your plants alive!

5BATHROOM VANITY

If you're redoing a bathroom, consider placing your sink in an old dresser. You'll add storage space and character to your bathroom.
