Time: 30 Minutes

Silverware is like the little black dress of the kitchen – you don't always put it in play, but when you do, it's an important occasion. Well, make every day feel a little more special by putting your silver into the regular rotation. You'll be more willing to use it regularly if you know it's easy to clean, plus it will stay protected and last longer!

Tools & Materials Needed
baking soda
mild dish soap
soft cloth
1 Wash your silverware in soapy water.

Use mild dish soap like Dawn, and do not put your silverware in the dishwasher.

2 Place silverware...

... in a large pot lined with aluminum foil.

3 In a separate pot, mix a cup baking soda...

...a quart of water and a couple teaspoons of salt. Bring to a boil on the stove and pour the boiling liquid into the pot with your silver. Let it sit for five minutes.

4 Remove your silverware...

...from the pot and rinse it with clean water.

5 Dry the silverware with a clean, soft cloth.

Don't rub in circles and don't rub hard or you risk damaging the surface of your silver.

6 Protect your silver cutlery in cloth roll bags.

Cloth rolls are impregnated to help your silver cutlery stay brighter for longer. If you're looking for a more air-tight environment, look for a canteen.

7 The best way to keep silver cutlery looking good is to use it frequently!

This will help develop the patina.
