How Much Should Tutoring Cost?

Whatever your budget or need, there's a tutoring option for you.
Whether your child needs a little extra help in one particular subject or studying in general, using a tutor can be a huge benefit. Tutors can provide valuable one-on-one time with a professional educator on a variety of subjects. Regular tutoring sessions can give your child time to work through difficult homework assignments, prep for a test or just simply learn how to study properly.
The main three types of tutoring are: private, corporate and online. Tutoring costs range based on the type of tutoring, a tutor's experience and a number of other factors.

There are many highly acclaimed corporate tutoring centers available nationwide. These companies usually offer personal assessments to determine exactly what areas your child needs the most assistance with and tailor a tutoring program specific to those needs. With dozens of locations and plenty of qualified tutors, you should easily be able to find a center close to home at a time that works best for you. Some tutoring centers also offer bilingual services.

Most corporate tutors will also require assessment fees, charge for the cost of materials, and request payment up front for packaged programs, rather than per session. On the upside, however, many large companies also guarantee their services and will provide money back or free sessions if your child doesn't show improvement within a given amount of time.

Unlike a learning center, private tutors will spend all of their time one-on-one with your child. The sessions will typically take place in your own home. Private tutors tend to specialize in only a few subjects, so if you're looking for in home tutoring on a wider range of subjects, you may end up needing more than one tutor.
With a tremendous number of listing agencies to connect you with a private tutor, finding one that's right for your child is easier than ever. Expect the cost to be around $30 to $40 per hour, but as high as $85, depending on the tutor's experience level and subject. Private tutors generally do not charge additional upfront fees or require contracts.
How much does an online tutor cost?
Online tutoring websites connect students over the Internet. Using a shared online workspace and private chat rooms, students can go over assignments and homework problems with a qualified tutor. Online tutoring prices per hour are about $20. However, the distance learning style doesn't work for every student, particularly younger ones who will thrive better with a more personal tutoring experience.
