How Much Does a Dishwasher Cost?

You have a lot of options when it comes to buying a new dishwasher.
Shopping for a dishwasher is a little like shopping for a car.
There are multitudes of options available, and the prices range significantly from high to low. And, yes, you may have a sales representative with you every step of the way — for better or worse.
Homeowners on a tight budget can buy a workable dishwasher without the added frills for as low as $250. Those with deep pockets, meanwhile, can shell out more than $2,000 for a state-of-the-art model that comes with additional luxuries, such as a floor light to show how much time remains in the cycle.
While the average cost of a new dishwasher runs about $400 to $700, dishwashers are typically broken down into three pricing categories: budget, midrange and luxury. There may be additional costs for installation.

Budget dishwashers
Through extensive research, Angie’s List determined the average cost of a budget dishwasher falls in the $249 to $499 range.
A budget dishwasher will do a fine job in most cases, but it won't include the options often found in midrange or luxury models. Budget models typically come with basic console-style fronts and stationary racks. They usually feature just two or three wash cycles.
One benefit of budget models — aside from the price, of course — is many come with stainless steel exteriors, which gives them a modern, pricier look.
Midrange dishwashers
Midrange dishwashers typically cost $500 to $999.
Some midrange models include more wash cycles – sometimes five or more – and adjustable racks and folding tines to create more flexibility when loading dishes.
These models also have added features such as soil sensors, which determine how dirty or clean a load is to adjust the cycle accordingly.
Luxury dishwashers
If you have money to spend, luxury dishwashers cost between $1,000 and $2,000. Luxury models stand out from other models because of an abundance of cycles — sometimes up to six or more — and an abundance of options and features.
They’re manufactured with higher-quality materials, such as stainless steel exteriors and tubs, which will increase longevity and decrease noise. Most luxury models are so quiet you barely even know they're running.
Luxury models also come with a wide-range of loading options, such as third racks.
Other expenses
Retailers may charge to deliver and install a dishwasher. However, some offer free delivery, or will haul away an old dishwasher for no charge with the purchase of a new dishwasher.
Check the retailer’s delivery and installation options before buying a dishwasher.
