How Much Do Lumineers vs. Veneers Cost?

These comments are very appalling. I see a lot of pointing the finger and it is just as bad as the point your trying to make. This is the world we live in peolple, and if we want anything to change, it has to start within. The generations after us need to be shown a better way. This name calling and belittling has to stop. You all should be embarrassed of yourselves. Make a difference people !

Subject: Veneers/Crowns

I got my veneers 6 yrs ago- they broke several times and I had them replaced each time- 2 with crowns as it kept happening. finally, I got a custom made mouth guard to wear while sleeping so I didn't grind them down.

Anyway, my porcelain veneers/crowns are yellow and discolored. I thought this doesn't happen to porcelain.

I can not afford 6 new veneers and Im no better than when I had yellow discolored teeth- just poorer

Subject: point of view.. US Trained Medical Physican

I am an American-born Citizen, was blessed by the Lord to become an Internal Medicine Physician, who specialized in Hospice and Palliative Medicine. At a top #2 pharmacy school in the United Sates, I finished with honors and physics. I am writing today for several reasons. The top there are to educate the non-dentists or non-physician on the fact that there are many more great compassionate physicians and Dentists than what appears. However, I have to agree with most of you, when I say that their are dentists and Doctors, who are driven by greed, as well as the companies who have devised new instruments and procedures and medications, all of which are created by a collection of Bio-Chemists, Research physicians, nurses and technicians. Their impetus is to provide procedures that will make one feel better about themselves. They don't think of providing their procedures or injections to all citizens,at costs which they can afford. Even pharmaceutical, SOME, will proved drugs free of charge or according to income sliding scale. I know Doctors, care for everyone that comes through the emergency room, if they have insurance or not. We took an oath to do do no harm...Doctors will give friend of Doctors and family discounts 20% to 50% off, if not free of charge. I know I do. However, overtime I have been to a dentists that i don't know, they charge me full amount, and when they come to see us, they demand a discount. This I can speak of as true in our large clinic system and others which friends owe. Dentists will, on occasion give discounts....but rare. That should tell you something....I know it tells me a lot about them. One dentist charged me almost 400$ to bond a small cracked tooth that had just been bonded, I said ill think about it and waited for my own dentist...who charged me 70$. When I told him about the dentist, He just shook his head and did say He shouldn't of charged anyone that amount. He went on to tell me that he was in financial trouble...but said, that was clearly an ethics violation..... I do wish the dentists i have been to eremite compassionate, in the least..but in my case only one was...He told me to not get veneers unless i really needed them. I only had a small chip, no discoloration, or crooked tee. One bond last me 5 years. even if i keep bonding the tooth, in 30 years, paying 70-100$, the would come out to about 600$. Now, I want to let everyone who reads this know that the those extremely contemptuous and disparaging professionals, were not likely professionals, by definition. They were wolves in steps clothing, but not when they wrote such vitriol. I am embarrassed if they were in the field...i do not consider them colleagues...Completely no compassion, because they were angry at the Truth...and those who are angry at the truth, respond in such a way as they did, out of fear.... Psych 101. If they are true who they say they are, they should not be ashamed to mention what city they live in and what is there name and specialty....Also, ask how they learned those procedures. It wasn't in dental school, for the most part, because those procedures did not exist for many dentist performing them today. The companies pushing the product are the real villains, and the dentists , fall to greed. In medicine, the same thing occurs, like in Botox, fillers for lip enhancement, and wrinkles. They are sent, the physicians, usually to a weekend or one day workshop, where there is usually a doctor, but are taught by technicians with out a 4 years degree,at least most. They have no pace in teaching a doctor how to perform a procedure , he will make thousands to hundreds of thousands of dollars over the year if they are successful at it.and keep a good reputation....I was told in blogs, people with horrible language skills, are not even educated, and are told to marginalize the people with legitimate complaints, insect a way to scare them from commenting again. Don't read their comments. Skip any comment that sis filled with derision. They re evil, greedy people. Who ever makes accusations of divisiveness first, are your wolves....the oldest trick in the world. Used in politics all the time. Their day is over....I pry for them and their soul, that they find their path back to righteousness, faith and Truth.Something we all need to pray for each other... I am merely attempting to let people in on what they may not be aware of. To look for the right a dentist, and ask if he has patients you can call to ask the about their experience. if they say no...stay away. Plastic surgeons always have people u can contact and visit, as part of our oath and Medical Boards own laws to protect the patient. I am considering placing one or two porcelain veneers because of the constant chipping of the same front tooth. Since Im living and working where I went to Medical School, many of my classmates have made this city their home. In Medical school, one rarely has communication with the Dental School, because of an ongoing silly divisiveness birthed decades ago. I have an idea what it is but i want comment on it because it is simply wrong to. I have been a physician now for over 20 years, and have three very close friends that our dentists that specialized in maxillofacial specialty. Basically, they went through 4 years of dental school and then started medical school, in order to attempt at matching with a maxillofacial program in one of many large medical Universities. They were great physicians and friends. It was from them that I was told to make sure and meet yr dentist, read blogs..and ask how many procedures they have done, where they learned to do them, and if you have the company number to verify. More importantly, to find out if a technical or true specialist MD or dentist taught the new dentist the procedure in more than 1-2 lists, but at least 6 weeks, and how many they performed before performing them on their own maybe surprised. If u feel they re know, it depends on thee egregiousness of their lies that may lead u to call the Dental or medical board to make a formal complain. These are the police if you will, of the trade. Customer service is ok, but they are slanted...not the board..usually. God bless all of you, and we need to stay connected to God and pray for our enemies....and each other. Do not read or listen to derogatory remarks...Stay calm and move on. You always have the option to notify the mental board to the state you are in. They will follow-up on the complaint, especially if u get several people to support your claims of uncharging. or malpractice. God bless

Subject: Beware, Big Corporation, No Customer service?

It's sad that so many people feel ripped off or disappointed with the work done or amount charged by their dentist. When I was 19 I invested $3,500 to have all metal fillings replaced with porcelain and gold. Now 35 yrs later, its time to restore, repairs and replace missing teeth and a damaged bridge. Thanks to the preventive work done at a young age; I don't need false teeth. I'm considering Lumineers or veneers. I appreciate all your comments negative and positive ones; especially Paola comments on 10/19/15. Everyone should take heed to her review. Any company that doesn't have a customer service dept. and claim they've never had a complaint is absurd. I sympathize with Paola for the rotten experience she endured; but I have to admit I couldn't help but laugh at the way she described her story and reference that her teeth were BIG like horse teeth, cracked and discolored. Thanks again Paola and to everyone who shared their stories. It was all enlightening and valuable to me. Hopefully, by doing a lot of research I'll find a good dentist who will restore my beautiful smile. I'll post a referral once I have my work done. Good luck everyone!

Subject: Reality check

As a dentist, I'm upfront with what my patients will pay out of pocket. There are always cheaper not getting any work done. Cosmetic surgery is elective and what's more GOOD cosmetic surgery is expensive. You're paying for a service and experience so that you don't have complications or bad results. If you can't afford it or think it's too expensive - then don't get it and shut your face when other people have the means or the motivation to choose to get cosmetic dentistry. It's their money and happiness and it doesn't cost you a think to keep your negative opinion to yourself.

Subject: Dont get lumineers stateside

If you want to save money and travel dont get lumineers stateside. You can get them done for half the cost, I recommend India since they are better skilled and educated then our American counter parts. They are appreciated and motivated for having your business where here in the states Dentists act like we are ruining their day by showing up, look down at us for not being in their field or assume we are uneducated (have 3 associates & 2 masters-not patting myself on back; just dont assume I'm stupid or anyone else if we visit your office) flops. Or search on line in Mexico if you dont want to travel far. They do good jobs also because they're motivated for your business and hope for referrals unlike here in the states. soon as you go out the door their looking to make another quick buck and rush their procedures.

Subject: Really? You're a dentist?

For you to tell people to "shut their face" is completely rude and unprofessional. I am so disappointed, and I fear for the customers that cross your path. Grow up, and stop being rude to people!

Subject: Reality check right back at you!

I find your comment to be a completely negative response to someone's "opinion" that you obviously don't agree with. Making you no better than the person/people you are refering to. Shut your face? Really? That's how you talk to people? If you didn't mention being a dentist I would have thought this came from some punk kid. More importantly it's extremely rude and highly unprofessional. Please share the area you practice in so I can be certain to avoid an unpleasant experience.

Subject: Veneers

I'm a little dismayed about the level of vanity in society. I can't drive to work without passing homeless people, single moms on their way to crappy low paying jobs, and children walking to school hungry. Dentistry is the last thing on their mind. I can afford to get veneers, but it seems silly to me. Not having white teeth just isn't a life crisis. If you can't/won't smile then I am certain your teeth are not the real problem.

Subject: ugggh

Seriously dude, I know you feel super righteous with your comment and all. But you should know some people just have crappy teeth, its in their genes just like some people have bad skin. So I don't get mad a people who want to have nice teeth when they smile or no acne on their face. And I get it their are worse things than having bad teeth or bad skin but how bout you try it for a day before you judge someone. Actually find some ugly teeth and fake acne and walk around and see how people treat you differently. I happen to have great skin but okay teeth so don't go thinking that Im telling my story. I just happen to be more empathetic than you, to all people, not just the ones I choose 'deserve' it.

Subject: Horrible Lumineer Experience

I had an absolutely HORRIBLE experience with my Lumineers and regret spending even ONE cent on this cosmetic dental work. I decided to get Lumineers because my dentist recommended them due to the fact that my enamel had become very weak and my teeth were a bit translucent. I decided to go ahead and get them done without doing ANY research, HORRIBLE MISTAKE. all the reviews i see now are all the problems i have had with mine and people end up getting them taken off because they look SO FAKE. I was reassured that my teeth would look natural and white. My MAIN concern was that i did NOT want them to look fake and thats exactly what i got… So I got my Lumineers placed on August 11th and ever since my life has been a complete NIGHTMARE, i refuse to smile (how ironic). When i got home from getting my Lumineers placed i looked in my magnified makeup mirror and my front tooth and tooth next to it where already cracked and one of my front teeth was grey and uneven with my other front tooth, i started balling my eyes out. I called my dentist and they told me to come in and they took a look at the cracks and called DenMat and had two new teeth made. I had to wait two weeks and Lumineers sent a HORRIBLE defected thin half broken front teeth and it had to be sent back to the lab and i had to WAIT ANOTHER two weeks hoping that the new tooth would come in correctly. Mind you, that i had to walk around the WHOLE month with two cracked teeth, one front grey tooth and uneven front teeth and overall my teeth look SO BIG and SO FAKE. I look like a horse, these Lumineers look SO thick on the teeth it is horrible and half my teeth look grey…. So finally the two new teeth came in and the dentist placed them in and the teeth are SO big that they barely fit in my mouth that the front tooth CRACKED AGAIN so once again i have a cracked tooth again. At this point, i just wanted my four grand back because i hated my WHOLE smile which i was denied because apparently Lumineers doesn't back up its product or makes them self liable for their crappy EXPENSIVE product. My smile is SO fake looking, they stick out like a sore thumb, it looks like i have an overbite because the teeth are SO teeth thick. they look like CHICLETS on top of my teeth mind you that the whole point of me getting this done was to be more confident with my smile and I've never felt worse about my smile. I NOW am having to leave to Colombia a THIRD WORLD COUNTRY where i am from to get these horrible things off my teeth and get them redone with the RIGHT product. This "easy fast no prep lumineers with a beautiful smile" is nothing but a scam that cost me A LOT of money, the 4,000 for the Lumineers and then now I have to take off of work AND off of school, my travel costs and my NEW dental work cost. My biggest mistake was getting Lumineers. I leave in a couple of weeks to get my teeth fixed because that is how miserable i am with my teeth and how i feel about myself because they look SO thick and SO fake. I will also post pictures of my teeth before, my teeth with the horribly placed uneven, grey, thick Lumineers and once I get my work redone in Colombia. Please do yourself a favor and do A LOT of research before you decide to get Lumineers done. Lumineers does NOT seem to be a very reputable company, they sent defective teeth about 3 times and then when I called to complain they stated that they don’t have a customer service number for complaints because they have none. They might want to check online because theres nothing but horrible reviews. Also very sketchy because what “BIG” company that has been “fixing smiles” for over 30 years doesn’t have a customer service department for complaints. Do your research because you will also see that there are MANY CONS to Lumineers and NO PROS in my opinion and they look like crap and very fake. Also they state that they should last up to “15 years” pretty sure my tooth front tooth and the tooth next to it cracked without me even brushing them for the first time. So your lucky if your lumineers last two weeks in my opinion, So do yourself a favor and get regular veeners because Lumineers is a crap company that has NO ONE i can speak to about the issues i have been having with THEIR product. and I honestly don’t know how it is still operating with all the horrible reviews I have seen online, if only I had done research before getting this crap done I would of saved myself a nightmare and 4,000 dollars. So I recommend getting Lumineers if you want to look like a horse or cartoon with 3D teeth, if that is not the look you are going for then trust me Lumineers is NOT for you either. Lumineers is a joke because the fact that they claim there is NO ONE I can speak to about my complaints is baffling to me, so maybe they might want to consider opening a department for complaints if they’ve been open for “30 years” because I’m sure thousands of people feel ripped off and robbed of their money because I sure as hell do. I called the number on the lumineer website 1-888-437-7179 and it connected me to someone to help me get lumineers and I explained my situation to them and they refused to give me a number or email that I can complain to and was acting like he was “checking” the computer but that there is no customer service number. I really hope my experience helped some of you out on whether deciding to get Lumineers DenMat and I hope this convinced you not too. I wish had someone tell me all the horrible outcomes that truly happen when you get Lumineers instead of just the paid reviews that they probably have. Stay away from Lumineers because they can not even back up their own product but claim to be a reputable company that has been around for 30 years. Its all lies and the biggest scam to get your money and good luck getting it back from Lumineers DenMat.

Subject: Seriously?

All of you guys are calling the dentist thieves and terrible names. You do realize lumineers and veneers are elective and cosmetic? This is not something you have to have when you go in for a filling which averages $120 and takes around an hour. Lumineers and veneers generally take up to 16 hours to complete on 4 teeth.
Before you start calling people crooks you should do some research and educate yourself. I certainly didn't call my plastic surgeon a crook for charging me $12,000 for a one hour ELECTIVE surgery that improved my self image. If you think this is any different, you are sadly mistaken.

Subject: I hate dentists!!

I have been to a few dentists one was too ruff and the other sucked he made me choke one my temp because his assistance was not paying attention then gave me a shot to work on my back tooth the girl came back in to ask me a few questions and I noticed my speech was different I was talking as if I was def. They ended up putting a filling on a tooth that clearly needed a root canal and they. Didn't even filled the whole tooth so if I chew on that side I'm in so much pain I'm to terrified of dentist. Two of my crowns have fall in off my front tooth has just chipped. I'm so worried I'm going to lose my teeth! I'm a mother of three barley able to pay my bills I spent over 5,000 just on 2 crowns and 5 fillings!!!!!!!! This is just Wat happens last year.

Subject: Overpricing

The Government needs to regulate the costs for Dental Procedures!!!

$1300 for a tooth for 30 min of work... Seriously how do these people live with themselves charging someone $2600 an hour?? Thats a months work for the average American or 160 man hrs.... And I thought people that became Dr's were supposed to help them... Not ROB THEM BLIND!!!

Subject: RICK being and ASS

RICK do you realize how much the dentist has to pay on a weekly basis, staff, equipment, building rental, power, all the different kinds of qaulifications they need to keep up to date on, so if a patient needs sedation prior to having dental work, not to mention all the different kinds of crowns and bridges and the list is endless, so before you go calling them scumbags you should really think about what they have to do with just one tooth. How would you like it if you have a business and people started calling you a scumbag saying you are ripping people off when you are just trying to make a living, it would suck i'm sure and youd be pissed so stop being a dick and think about how much they have to pay back in education too trust me as a dental assistant mine obviously didnt cost anywhere CLOSE to a dentist but it's still a fair amount, they are not indentured servents, plus the lumineers and veneers are not something you NEED it's a cosmetic choice thats why insurance wont pay for it........

Subject: Debbie think you have been dupped

Debbie for being a Dental Assistant, it appears you are working for one of the biggest scumbags yourself.

Either that or you're quite naive and ignorant about your surroundings.
I am curently still practicing & have been for nearly 21 years.
15 of those years have been my own practice.

Have you ever met or been employed by a dentist of any age, that seem hurting financialy?

Doesn't happen, because many dentist won't let it out there, but in nearly evey catagory of professional expenses & costs, the dr has avenues to gather support or kickbacks in order to absorb said costs.
AND THAT IS THE NORM! Not some back door deal for only the integrity bankrupt.

It's just that your employer has chosen to surpress this info from you & likely others in your office. This way it's again more money to the bottom line & less to you........hence the whole "scumbag" comment certainly holds true For your outfit & most others.

As for me.......I did the same for a while but quickly learned that was abetter all utilized by sharing the wealth & passing the savings on to my potential customers.

NOW......I have a practice that has never had a hiccup even through the economic downturns & a family like staff, who has not struggled taking care of their own families & are very loyal to me.
Just as are my base clientele.

The lesson for today........
Not Scumbag Dentist=strong staff & loyal, happy base clientele

Subject: Bad dentists

I have been in the US for 21 years and have YET to find a halfway decent dentist! In my 40 years in Africa (yes a Third World country!!) my dentists were AMAZING and always preserved my teeth! Here in the US, they drill for NO reason and when there is nothing left of the tooth, they pull it, suggesting implants (because that's where the big money is)! When I have refused implants due to cost, they made a denture for me - IT NEVER FITTED, despite SEVEN fittings! I have had THREE dentures and all were ill fitting! When I cracked a molar, it had to be pulled. I was fobbed off on an assistant (not that I knew it then!) who took TWO HOURS to pull one tooth! A week later, it became apparent that the assistant had cracked my jaw in removing the tooth! I wouldn't mind paying $2,600 an hour for a good dentist ~ there just aren't any in the US.... it's a meat market/gold mine for them and little care for the patient! I don't believe that a dentists costs are any more than mine, to run a business and my hourly rate is nothing like theirs! I also spent YEARS qualifying for my career and I AM ALSO NOT AN INDENTURED SERVANT! Dentistry in the US is legal robbery!

Should we all give everything we own away, because we made the right choices in life for financial well being, hard work continued sacrifice to get it. All I ever read anymore is how anyone that charges a fee or goods and services that they are crooked and rip people off, we are now entering into a complete welfare state, because those who say these things have a I am owed it mentality, and anyone else is not. The Lumineers were about $1,300.00 a tooth. I had braces to straighten out A DoD orthodontist in military school at 13 years old. The teeth coloring was lousy. The structured look great but very little brightness. No good solution from the dentist and a RIP final between us. 61 years of age and work done 4 years ago.

Subject: Veneers

I have upper front veneers done one year ago and now they keep falling off.glued on . But are not lasting . Paying 900.00. Is a lot of money who lives on a fixed income. Not sure what to do about my front teeth , any suggestions out there ? Dentist are a big rip off. So what they have to pay for staff and equipment. There are many of us that pay for schooling and get degrees and still can't get any work. Nothing in this world has to cost a lot of money. dr's, dentist, lawyers ,vets , are big greedy people, they get away with it because they know it is a need.

Subject: it is a total rip off making

it is a total rip off making money is great but when you have people truly in need of dental work it should be discounted. I am not poor I have an MBA from a private university. I am make good money but with all my other expenses dental work is outrageous. I just paid $6000 for 3 crowns & one root canal. I want my teeth whitened but can't afford it now. By the way I had root resorption causing me to have a front tooth extracted that's why I had 3 crowns put in but ideally I wanted them made very white but can't afford veneers to match them so I had to get a darker shade than I wanted

Subject: Vaneers

I had Vaneers put on back in 1992 and they still look great! I did chip one of my canines because I bit down on something hard, completely my own fault, but the dentist repaired it and good as new. The right dentist is the key. Definitely find someone who specializes in this treatment, and has had plenty of practice. I hope this helps. CJ

There is a product you can get at Walgreens which cements crowns. I can't recall the name, but it's an over the counter product and is only around $5-8 or so. You could try that with your veneers... Good luck!

Subject: Crowns vs veneers

My husband was told he needed crowns on the front teeth because veneers were too thin for his type of wear and damage. We went with that, and paid $4500 for 4 front teeth and one back tooth. Doesn't sound like that much but it was. And now the problem - they look like horse teeth, his speech is different, I don't like them at all since they look too big, and the dentist says they're FINE and DANDY and she did a great job with his smile!! There's no fixing them unless he starts over from scratch!! More money!! I am so upset about it now that I don't know what to do. They fit the mold OK and looked OK on the mold, but NOT on the real mouth!! Can't afford a redo.

Subject: Supply and Demand !

I totally agree with you, but I would think the price would go down because it not everyday the someone with adverage income can afford to rack up this cost for their self-esteem, not to mention being in the public especially when working with the public. Employers will look and hire you by your appearance. I need or should I say want 14 teeth done, my dentist cost is 1250.00 per tooth.. :-( = $ 16,800.00 that a good down payment on a home ! Just like everything else ... " It's Supply and Demand " !

Subject: Lumineers

I want to get my teeth Whiter but who would pay that ridiculous amount of money per tooth?????

Subject: Lumineers

In April 2007, I had 19 Lumineers done. The cost was considerable over $17K, but cheaper since I went with so many Lumineers. Today, November 2014, most of them are still intact. I have lost 2 of them (back teeth) over the years and 2 of them had small chips.

Here is some truth that you will not find anywhere:
1. Lumineers lie about no pain and no drilling. There was pain and a lot of drilling. My dentist had to smooth all my teeth in order to place Lumineers on them. It took him the entire day to do this. About 8-10 hours. After that, he took impressions of my teeth and placed an order.
2. Two weeks later (you have to live with your not so good looking teeth for those 2 weeks), Lumineers arrived at my dentist's office. I went back to have them installed. Again, a lot of pain, and it took all day to do this.
3. You have to change the way you eat. You will learn very fast what you can and cannot bite. You will also learn to use utensils forever very carefully, so they don’t bang on your teeth. I cracked my upper front Lumineer in about 1 month and had to go back to my dentist twice 2 weeks apart. First time, to take an impression and place a temporary cover on my tooth so it would not stand out, and the second time to place Lumineer when it arrived from the manufacturer.

The result was absolutely outstanding. My dentist was right advising me not to get the whitest color since it looked very artificial (look at old actors/TV personalities with very bright teeth). I think that he went 1 or 2 shades darker. My teeth look very white and natural. I am a coffee drinker, and they don't stain.

I will recommend it to anyone with just 1 precaution: the artistry of your dentist means everything (how long Lumineers stay in, if they crack, the way they are placed and separated, proportions, correct color, etc.) You may lose all your Lumineers in a matter months if you go with an inexperienced or impatient dentist.

Subject: I agree

I completely agree with Rick and Ashlea. I was looking to have this done myself but there is no way I can afford it at these prices, it's ridiculous!!! It can't cost dentist that much and it really takes no time at all for them to do the procedure in the first place , so I don't see why we should have to pay so much to feel Greta about ourselves. Dentist and Doctors really could care less about the lower class people and it's is sickening!!!

Subject: I completely agree

I agree with Rick and Ashlea, it really is outrageous that it costs that much. I was lookin to have it done, but there's really no way I can afford that price!!!! Not everyone is rich or has the money to do this, it's crazy!!!! No dentist or doctor really looks out for the lower class people and it is sickening!!

Subject: Pricing

$1,100 per tooth to have a great smile, forever - not outrageous - and besides, it is elective not mandatory. The dentist pays for years of schooling, rent on an office, buys a ton of high-tech equipment, pays a staff (he employs a number of people), insurance and more. Next time you have a tooth emergency, I recommend NOT using the insulting words above in your conversation.

OMG!!! These people need to wake up and realize not everyone makes 3 figures..there is a lower class people geesh!!

Subject: Outrageous pricing

Someone should post what thieving dentists actually PAY for those veneers that they have a total of possibly an HOUR invested in, by the time they're installed. $1,100 per tooth, INDEED!!! Those arrogant, pocket picking scumbag dentists should be castrated for FREE.
People need to wake up and realize that the entire medical profession takes advantage of their patient's illnesses, ailments and limitations. The insurance companies are in bed with the Dr.s and hospitals. They pay those outrageous prices and then charge higher premiums. ..... One more thing... BEWARE of AARP. It's a scam that was set up by the Insurance industry to get Seniors to sign up... giving the INSURANCE INDUSTRY the names, addresses and phone numbers of their TARGET CUSTOMERS. (absolute truth)

I am familiar witht he ClearChoice Dental Implant Centers across the country, in particluar, the one in Overland Park, KS.  They are a "one stop" implant center.  The doctors there are at the top of their field, and an advantage is that you have all of the specialists that will be working with you in the same place.  That would have to make communication easier between doctors.  They usually offer seminars for patients and I think, offer free consultations, which is always worthwhile.

If you chose to go the other way, some Prosthodontists will place and restore the implants themselves. In other cases, an Oral Surgeon or Periodontist will place the implant and a Prosthodontist or General Dentist restores it.   Fees can vary quite a bit from office to office and with the different options for restorative materials.  Some offer free consultations, for others, they charge a fee that might be applied to any future treatment in some cases.

The first step is to schedule a few consultations with different providers, which it sounds like you've already done.

The most important factors when deciding which practitioner to work with:
.1.  You should feel comfortable asking your doctor any questions so that you have a good understanding of the procedure itself, healing time and long-terem outcome, and possible complications.  Write down a list of questions and take them with you to the consultation.

2.  Ask about the experience of the practitioner. How many similiar procedures have they completed?  Have they had any major complications with any cases?  Ask to see photos if possible.

3..Figure out if it works out better for your schedule, to go to a "one stop" provider or to separate providers for the placement and the restoration of the implants.

4. Follow your instincts.  If you feel rushed, didn't get direct answers to your questions, didn't communicate well or had any other negative feelings, this probably isn't the doctor for you.

5. Consider insurance coverage and financing options.  If your dental plan covers implants and it is important to you to use a preferred provider, you will want to check your list.  Many times, insurance does not cover implants, or at least not all of the steps.  You may want to inquire about payment and financing options.

I hope this at least helps you feel a little less confused and a little more directed. Please don't hesitate to contact me if I can be of further help.

As a  Dentist, I am sorry to hear about your denture nightmare and I know how frustrating that can be.  I am surprised that your doctor wasn't willing to work with you on some type of solution.  A few options would be either remaking the dentures once more,  or offering to return some of the money and have you return the dentures.   Unfortunately, the doctor has put in a lot of their time and lab expenses, but the patient also  has time and money invested.  You might try sending a letter re-explaining the problems you hand and offering an acceptible and fair solution.  Be sure to keep a copy of it and any correspondence you receive from the Dental Office.  In the event that you don't get anywhere, you have documentation of the problem.

At any point in the process, did they have you sign something saying you were happy with the denture set up?  Some practitioners will document the patient's acceptance at the try-in appointment, before the denture is processed.  At that time, changes in tooth arrangement, size and color can be made with minimal lab expense.

If the letter doesn't get you anywhere, you might try going to the governing body of the dental profession in your area.  I am a dentist in Blue Springs, Missouri, USA.  Here, we have the Missouri Dental Board  (or the Dental Division of the Missouri Department of Professional Registration.)  This is the entity that licenses us to perform our professional duties in our state.  They often have a process to file complaints against a provider if you were unable to resolve the problem yourself.   After your complaint is received, they will contact the doctor to get their side of the story, then try to mediate a solution between the two parties.

As far as a new set of dentures, you might seek out the services of a Prosthodontist (specializes in dentures and removable appliances - extra training and certification beyond general dentistry) or go to a local dental school.  The students are supervised and checked off at each step by professionals.  Most dental schools also treat patients through their faculty practices, and you can often get the services of a specialist at a lower price.

I hope this information is helpful to your situation, and I wish you well.
