From curb to basement to rooftop, Charlotte homeowners and gardeners will find ideas for building, remodeling, decorating and landscaping at the 30th Southern Ideal Home Show at The Park Expo and Conference Center this weekend.

More than 175 exhibitors from around the Charlotte region will showcase their offerings and share advice on home, lawn and garden at the home show, which runs Friday through Sunday, Aug. 22 to 24.

Local home improvement contractors covering a range of trades, from awnings and insulation to gutters and granite, plants and pools, solar energy and more will be easily accessible at the show. Angie's List will also be on hand at the home show.

Finally, don't miss water safety tips from Twiggy the Water-Skiing Squirrel!

To make the most of your visit, show manager Mardee Woodward says, bring your home project ideas, but be open to new ones.

Show your space

It can help to bring with you measurements of the room or space you're interested in upgrading, as well as images of ideas that you like and any fabric or paint swatches you've already chosen.

“Take advantage of mobile phones with pictures of the yard or the room where you’d like to do something different,” Woodward says. “It’s so much easier than trying to describe it.”

Talk to multiple vendors

Most areas of the Charlotte home show related to home maintenance and home improvement have several businesses exhibiting.

“Stop by at least a few of them,” Woodward says. ”It’s one-stop and so convenient” to get a second or third opinion.

Many exhibitors also offer special pricing at the home show, so you may want to do some research on the project ahead of time, which will help you know how much you would actually save.

As always, don't forget to login and check their reviews on Angie's List before signing a contract.
