Homeowner wants refund from Bohemia roof and chimney company
I hired Maximum Energy Savers of Bohemia, New York, to clean one fireplace and flue.
The workman told me I had a gas leak from rusted pipes, and that the pipes needed to be replaced immediately because they were in life-threatening condition. He wanted a $1,000 deposit. I gave him $500, and he was scheduled to return the next day. Before he arrived, I called the gas company, which came to my home within 30 minutes and checked everything. There was no gas leak, but there was an old rusty and disconnected pipe. I faxed the information to Donald Ulrich, the owner of Maximum Energy Savers, requesting a refund. He called me and screamed and yelled at me. He claimed I didn't call the gas company and he said a lot of other things, some of which were sexist. I hung up.
In addition, the workman didn’t properly clean the fireplace. Smoke and debris were coming out of it the night before. I called Mr. Ulrich to tell him that the worker closed the flue and didn't tell us. He said they were required by law to do this.
However, my husband went onto the roof and smoke was coming out of the chimney and into the living room. We extinguished the fire. It was too hot to check the flue. When we checked the flue later, it was partially closed.
Mr. Ulrich said he won't cancel the job, even though the contract says I have three days to cancel. I want a full refund.

Have a complaint?
Our Angie’s List complaint resolution team attempts to resolve disputes between members and service providers. During this process, three outcomes can happen: Penalty Box, Resolved or Stalemate. Companies that don’t respond to a member’s complaint will be placed in the Penalty Box until they respond. A case becomes Resolved if a company addresses the complaint to the member’s satisfaction, or it becomes a Stalemate if the provider responds, but the company and the member can’t reach an agreement.
