Homeowner thinks big with multi-room storage space project
When Harrisburg, N.C. member Shantel Culver moved into her newly built home, she immediately wanted to upgrade her closet space, which consisted of metal shelves. “I wanted to maximize the space,” she says. “The metal shelving didn’t do that.”
Culver says she was very involved in the closet design process, which also included upgrades to the kitchen pantry and the laundry room. She made sure the new space would address her needs like having plenty of space for shoes and handbags.
After she decided on the design, she got to select the final touches. “I was able to choose colors because all of that was at the design center,” she says.
Culver picked highly rated Closets by Design of Charlotte, N.C., to complete the work, and that was the only company she needed to contact. She found them on Angie’s List and found their prices to be reasonable based on what friends who completed similar work had told her.
The designer, Carolyn Palmer, came to Culver’s house to help her realize her ideal storage dreams. “I was really impressed with her,” Culver says.
According to Culver, working with Palmer was a collaborative effort. Culver says her ideas blossomed with Palmer’s suggestions to glorious results. She felt comfortable telling Palmer if she didn’t like her suggestions. “There was a space that I decided I didn’t need,” Culver says. “So she changed the design.”
Culver said she started the project with a budget in mind, and the final cost of $6,900 was less than she expected to spend. She says Palmer helped her hone her focus on what she actually needed and helped save her money.
Once the work was completed, Culver found herself with a laundry room, pantry and closet with maximum storage capabilities. “I have room for everything,” she says. “It’s phenomenal.”
